Joomla! vs Drupal

I’ve been spending the last few weeks looking at Joomla! and Drupal. They are both popular, open source, content management systems. They both are written with PHP and run very well as part of the LAMP stack, though they also work with plenty of other options in regards to supporting technologies. They are both also designed to allow the use of plugins, or modules that modify existing capability or add new capabilities. There are strong development communities for both products – core and plugin side.

I haven’t used either extensively. I’ve been reading about and playing with Joomla! I think I’m about to wrap that up and start messing with Drupal. Joomla! is nice, though the restrictions on the use of categories for organizing content are unfortunate. There are a huge number of plugins that cover an impressive range of capabilities. I can see why it is so popular.

del.icio.us link posts

del.icio.us is a social book-marking site. But I probably don’t need to tell you that. Anyway, they have a feature where you can set it up so that once a day, any new links you’ve posted there, get sent to your blog as a post. That’s what the “links for 2008-04-26″ post is right before this one.

To be honest, I don’t know that it will be of much value to anyone else, unless for some odd reason they were interested in what I thought was worth bookmarking. But I think that for me it could come in very handy. It was painless to set up and appears to be working properly. Very nice.
