Arjuna-X

The new theme is Arjuna-X. I like it, and look forward to messing with it. It comes with quite a few nice config options right out of the box, so I feel comfortable just throwing it on now and messing with it once I have some time to do so. Next post should include some code to see how that comes out.

Video Press

The WordPress folks mentioned VideoPress today on twitter. Essentially, if I understand what that page says, they are offering a video hosting service as well as a plugin that enables WordPress sites to take full advantage of that service. The videos will be hosted at WordPress.com and while folks who have their own hosting ( like me ) can still use it, they will need a WordPress.com account if they don’t have one. But the plug-in will present the videos from their site.

I’ve never had a problem slapping youtube videos into my posts, and I don’t use any plugins to do so. But maybe there are people out there that want more options or control? Not sure, but this may be of interest to other WordPress users.

Feeds are Fixed

A couple friends that track the site via the RSS feed informed me that there was a problem. I finally took the time to track it down and correct it last night- so things should be good now.

BuddyPress goes 1.0

BuddyPress is a multiuser Wordpress install with a set of plugins that add a ton of social functionality. Things like private messaging, profiles, friends, groups, activity streams, and such. It is basically your own social network in a box. Very interesting. I haven’t played with it much but I intend to do so. There is a lot of potential here.

A New Look

This is a work in progress – and I’m not sure how long it will last but I’m going to give it a spin.

More on Connect

I’ve installed the plugin from sociable – and that should be pretty obvious on the front page of the blog. I’ve just tested it a bit, but it seems to not refresh when I log in, but if I click on a story to comment, I am logged in. The graphics don’t fit the width of my sidebar. This is a touch of a problem – and I’ll poke around later to see what I need to do to fix that. Hopefully I can just resize the image in gimp. It took me a few minutes to install and get it working. Pretty straightforward with lots of explanations, including a video, over at the Sociable site

Facebook Connect

Facebook Connect enables integration between external sites and facebook. What this means is that many of you who already have blogs outside facebook can now use Facebook Connect to bring Facebook to your blog and your blog back to Facebook. This includes Identity, Friends, Discovery and Privacy. There is already a Facebook Connect plugin directory with plugins for Moveable Type and WordPress; blog widgets for JS-Kit, Disqus, NetworkedBlogs, and RPX as well as a plugin for MediaWiki. I am sure there will be more to come in the future. I’m checking out the WP plugins right now – going to have to see what this brings me.
